the Methodist Protestant church that he built one near his home in the country, costing him over $3,000, and which by indomitable energy and perseverence he kept in a progressive state while he lived, but it died with him.

"My wife, whose maiden name was Myra Mumford, born Dec. 2, 1849, near Berlin, Md., daughter of William and Mary Mumford; her father was also a farmer, and sheriff at the time of his death.

"My son, Harry Lynn, born at Whaleyville, near Berlin, Md., May 26, 1872, is auditing clerk in the Pennsylvania Railroad freight office at Jersey City, New Jersey (of which West Hoboken is a suburb), and is still at home with us.

"Our daughter, Maggie Mumford, was born Feb. 11, 1877, and although she has no vocation, and therefore we have little to say of her here, we love her none the less.

"Rupert James Fooks, our youngest, was born February 13, 1879. He is assistant private secretary to Col. Hilton of the firm of Hilton, Hughes & Co., successors to A. T. Stewart & Co., the great dry goods merchants of New York City."

Martha E. Ward, Philadelphia, says:

My grandmother's name was Priscilla Hearne (daughter of Lowder); she married John Ward, and their names are on the tree with their son, Benjamin Ward, with his wife and children, etc. Benjamin Ward's eldest son, named Benjamin, is not on the tree. Cyrus, another son, is not on the tree; he married M. Smith, and has some six or more children, whose names I cannot give; their address is Ward's, Sussex Co., Del.

"My grandfather, John Ward, had four other sons and three daughters; his eldest, Nancy, died, leaving one child, Annie E. Moore, at Laurel, Del. The second daughter, Lavinia, died, leaving children, grandchildren, etc. One of her children is Mrs. Eliza Calloway, Philadelphia, Pa. The third daughter, Mary Giles, has some four or five children, one of whom is named Jacob, at Laurel, Del. Joseph Ward, one of the sons, I knew noth- ing of. John and William Ward live in Bridgeville, Del., and have large families.

"My father, Cyrus Ward, married Caroline Hearne Nov. 27, 1851; both were born in Laurel, Del. He died Jan. 7, 1882. Children: Harvey J., born Apr. 15, 1853 ; married S. Meers, and
