the old days on the cattle range had their charm for the cattle owners and cowboys, and many of them -- Mr. Hearn among others -- can look back over the era of free grass and unlimited range with a certain feeling of regret. Larkin Hearn came safely through all the dangers of those early days his cattle throve and increased rapidly, and in time he became an extensive dealer as well as breeder and herder. The size of his business can be estimated from the fact that be has branded as many as 9,000 calves in a single year, and that before the building of railroads north from Texas he drove many herds of fine, fat steers to the markets of Kansas. In 1876 he moved his cattle from Collin and Denton to Callahan County, where he now resides, engaged almost exclusively in handling steers, which he ships to the northern markets. The business he manages is an extensive one, and has branches in the Pan-Handle and in New Mexico.
