children were: Sarah, born Apr. 24, 1814, married James Thompson Mar. 19, 1835. Annie, born Feb. 22, 1816, married Isaac Bland Apr. 11, 1839. Lydia, born Feb. 7, 1819, married Rice Miller Feb. 21, 1839. Lavinia, born Mary 25, 1821, married James Hill. Sarah daughter of John and Annie Hearn, married Joshua Bruce, a local Methodist preacher. Children: Eight sons and four daughters, but I have not satisfactory information as to dates of birth or marriage of them. Their names are: James, married Elizabeth J ustus; Isaaih, married Sarah Justus; Joshua, married Minerva Justus; John, married Catherine Robinet; William, married Miss Maupin; Harvey Chesney, married Susa Hodge, and after her death married Elizabeth Beckley; Noah B., married Nancy Whiteley; Enoch G., married Lettie Umbarger; Elizabeth married Joseph Hutsell; Lydia, married Montgomery Baker ; Hannah, married Moses Karr; Sarah, married James Waddell.

James and Elizabeth (Justus) Bruce had children: Joshua Henderson, Melissa J., Daniel Wesley, Minerva Ann, Erastus M., Harold, Joshua and Elizabeth. Joshua Henderson Bruce married Margaret Hodge. Children: Daniel Hodge Bruce, married Martha Karr ; James Edward, married Edna Harris of Tennessee, He was born about 1840, and was a Methodist minister, a successful and forceful speaker. They have two children, Hayner Hodge, born 1894, and Hazel Edna, born 1896. Joshua Henderson Bruce married for second wife Julia Eaton. Melissa J., daughter of James and Elizabeth Justus Bruce, married Jno. F. Locke. Daniel Wesley Bruce, son of James and Elizabeth (Justus), married first, Hester A. Eaton, and second Cynthia Dunbar. Minerva Ann Bruce daughter of James and Elizabeth (Justus) married John Respass. Harold Bruce, married first Sarah Suter, and second Fannie Thomp- son. John, son of Joshua and Sarah (Hearn) Bruce, born in Wythe Co., Va., June 16, 1806, died Apr. 12, 1862. He was a man of sterling worth as a neighbor, Christian and citizen. Married Cath- erine Robinett Sept. 4, 1828. She died Aug., 1875. They moved to Giles Co., Va., now Miles Co., W. Va., 1827, and bought a farm on the head waters of Christian's Fork, where they lived through life, farming and working in the blacksmith shop.

Josiah, son of John and Catherine Bruce, born 1830, married Mary Smith. They were good Christian people and Methodists,
